Board of Directors

The NASW-GA Board of Directors is comprised of 12 Board members who are appointed from the Chapter membership. All Board members serve 3-year terms except for student representatives and a president-elect who hold (1) one-year terms. Board terms follow the Chapter fiscal year, which begins July 1 and ends June 30 each year. The Board of Directors holds five meetings annually, including an annual Board Orientation. All Board meetings, except for executive sessions, are open to membership. Board members are guided by a Charter which is approved by NASW National Board of Directors. Additionally, the Board is responsible for carrying out the Association's mission and what it strives to accomplish at the state/local levels, discussing association policy and programming, and setting chapter policies concerning social work practice issues. NASW-GA comprises 4 Regions (North, South, East, and West). Each Region is Represented on the Board of Directors by a Region Representative and a Member-at-Large Representative. The list of board members is below:

Vacant Positions and Descriptions

All Board Members including Regional Representatives and Members-At-Large duties and responsibilities rest within the policies and priorities established by the Delegate Assembly and the NASW National Board, and they are:

  • Developing programs aligned with Delegate Assembly program priority goals, the Association’s strategic goals and chapter membership needs.
  • Establishing and dissolving committees and task forces based on Chapter program and administrative needs.
  • Ensuring that the chapter adheres to policies as set forth in the framework of NASW public, professional and organizational policies.
  • Representing the Chapter in the community to maintain its relationship with other organizations.
  • Ensuring the development and implementation of chapter membership recruitment and retention.

*The term limit for board members excluding student representatives is 3-years and for student representatives is 1-year. 

President – the President is the presiding officer of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee, and an ex-officio member of all committees without a vote except as provided in the committee charge; represents the Board of Directors and reports to the Board of Directors all important interim actions; and, in consultation with the Board of Directors, makes all appropriate committee, task force, unit and other appointments. The President shall work collaboratively with the Executive Director and the National Office to achieve the goals of the chapter. 

President-Elect – the President-Elect serves a one-year term before assuming the office of President; is available to work in close collaboration with the President; and performs duties as assigned by the President. 

Vice President – the Vice President fulfills the duties of the President in the event of absence or disability and assumes the presidency upon the President’s resignation or inability to discharge the office; oversees the Chapter Diversity Plan, including the annual progress reporting. The Vice President serves as the primary liaison between the Chapter Board and the executive director on the financial matters of the Chapter including the review of the Chapter’s budget and financial reports with the Chapter Board. The Vice President ensures adherence to the financial policies and practices required by the National Office or approved by the NASW National Board, and performs other duties as assigned by the President.

Secretary – the Secretary is responsible for the Board of Directors’ and Executive Committee’s meeting minutes, as well as for other non-fiscal records of the Chapter.

Region Representative and Members-At-Large – the Region Representative and Region Member-At-Large are responsible for representing the Chapter in the local region and maintaining a relationship with other organizations in the region. Ensuring the development and implementation of membership recruitment and retention programs. Ensuring the development and implementation of regional continuing education programming. Attend 4 quarterly board meetings when scheduled to report on local regional activities and issues impacting the social work profession in the region.

MSW and BSW Student Representatives – the MSW and BSW Student Representatives are responsible for assisting the Chapter leadership and Executive Director in planning NASWGA functions targeted to social work students e.g., Social Work Advocacy Day. Identify and recruit student members to NASW/NASWGA. Distribute information to schools of social work on NASW activities and encourage student participation. Seek input from social work students as to their interests and needs in relation to NASWGA and share such input with the Board of Directors. Attend 4 quarterly board meetings when scheduled to report on issues related to school social work students.

  2. Photo for Ballot, Website, and Election Notices to NASWGA Membership
  3. Statement of interest in BOD position
  4. A letter of recommendation – from current employer and for students a recommendation from a professor.
  5. If the candidate is a previous BOD member with any organization (including any NASW Chapter), must get
  1. One (1) letter of recommendation from current BOD President/Executive Director OR
  2. Current Executive Board member, assessing compliance with their organizational Charter.
